Panel Discussion – Ecological Transition, the Bigger Crisis to Come

On 2-3 September 2020, the international virtual conference “Covid19 impact on civic and youth activism’’ organized as part of the international Community Action Training – CAT programme, an educational and training programme supporting emerging nonviolent civic movements campaigning for social transformation and social change, explored implications of Covid19 on civic movements and civic activism.

On the “Panel Discussion – Ecological Transition, the Bigger Crisis to Come”

  • Olha Boiko, Coordinator of the Climate Action Network in the Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (CAN EECCA coordinator) (Kiev, Ukraine),
  • Giorgi Tsintsadze, Social/Environmental Policy Researcher at Human Rights Education and Monitoring Center (EMC) (Tbilisi, Georgia), and
  • Sinan Eden from Climáximo (Portugal), with
  • Facilitator: Tamar Antidze, Climate Change and Energy Programme Coordinator, South Caucasus Regional Office of Heinrich Boell Foundation (Tbilisi, Georgia)

tackled the ecological transition and environmental challenges faced by our communities. The panellists presented which tactics they use in their work and campaigns to ensure that the covid19 emergency response does not overlook the actual climate change and environmental crisis. The current situation and challenges on how to raise interest of the public and of decision-makers were emphasized, looking at the realities and actual situation in Western Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia.
