O novo relatório do Climáximo, “Lutar para vencer: o impacto no clima do movimento português anti-petróleo” mostra a influência bastante significativa da luta em termos de acção climática. Os autores do relatório concluem que o activismo pode ser a forma mais eficaz para os cidadãos em termos de reduzir os seus impactos climáticos.
Quando António Costa, sorridente e bem-disposto, diz “espero que sim” que o furo de Aljezur avance “apesar de todos os protestos”, mostra-nos com clareza o caminho que temos de fazer: pôr os nossos corpos nas linhas vermelhas dum planeta habitável e não deixar as multinacionais (e os seus governos) ultrapassá-las.
Foi isso que aconteceu no Festival Músicas do Mundo em Sines, em que os activistas simularam um derrame de petróleo no mar. Na acção organizada pelo Alentejo Litoral pelo Ambiente, os activistas, auto-intitulados de Governo Autónomo dos Latifundiários do Petróleo (G.A.L.P.), representaram os interesses dos empresários do petróleo e políticos, tendo simulado a venda do planeta. No final foram expulsos da praia, presos em Linha Vermelha, por dezenas de outros manifestantes que se concentraram na praia em apoio à acção.
Logo na semana seguinte, centenas juntaram-se na Cova do Vapor para passar uma mensagem clara e forte: Parar o Furo. Água é vida.

O próximo grande momento do movimento por um Portugal justo e livre de combustíveis fósseis será no dia 8 de Setembro, na Marcha Mundial do Clima: Parar o Petróleo! Pelo Clima, Justiça e Emprego!

A new report by Climáximo, “Fight to win: the climate impact of the Portuguese fossil-free movement” (available in English) shows how effective the movement has been so far in preventing greenhouse gas emissions.
When Prime Minister António Costa said in a television interview that he “hopes” that the drilling would happen “despite all the protests”, he is clearing showing us the path we must take: laying our bodies on the red lines for a habitable planet and not allowing corporations (and their governments) to cross them.
This is exactly what happened in Sines during last month’s Festival Músicas do Mundo, when activists simulated an oil spill in the ocean. In this action organized by Alentejo Litoral pelo Ambiente, these activists represented the politicians and oil executives of the “Autonomous Government of Petroleum Landlords” (G.A.L.P), simulating the trading of the planet, who were then bound in red lines and expelled from the beach by dozens of other activists who had gathered in support.
The following week, hundreds gathered at Cova do Vapor to participate in an action of an aerial art, using their bodies to send a clear and strong message: “Stop the drilling. Water is life.” You can watch the beautiful video of this inspiring action here.
