18 August | ESU2022: The Climate Crisis is a Class Struggle

We need to cut emissions, and we need to cut them quickly. We need structural change in the way. The Climate Jobs campaigns seek to build bridges between the struggles for climate justice, dignified employment, work security, and democratic access to natural resources, by rejecting the false dilemma of jobs versus the environment. In this workshop, we wish to explain what Climate Jobs are and why are these so important.

The climate crisis is a class struggle. Climate science has told us that we need to cut emissions drastically within a very short timeframe. Within the capitalist neoliberal system, no energy transition is taking place. What is happening is an energy expansion, in which the same companies keep on profiting from both fossil and renewable energy sources. At the same time, affordable energy is still not a resource guaranteed for everyone, while a lot of workers are losing their jobs on the claims of a transition. We need to change the way we produce energy, build, transport ourselves, produce food, among other things. The Climate Jobs campaigns seek to build bridges between the struggles for climate justice, just transition, dignified employment, work security, and democratic access to natural resources, by rejecting the false dilemma of jobs versus the environment. Climate jobs campaigns are revolutionary programs. And these are the only real political program that present concrete steps on how to cut greenhouse gas emissions, while guarantying justice and securing the rights of the working class, including the right to jobs that are safe, dignified, fulfilling, with fair wages, and that contribute to the reproduction of Humanity on this planet, securing everyone’s access to essential services and needs.
